guess who hasn't blogged in forever? fall 2012

ENGLISH
I haven't blogged in a few months... sorry! I spent that time in on the French Riviera at the beach and shopping. Not bad, right? To make up for it, I'll show you a few of the things I bought while I was there and tell you why I'm completely in love with them. First, the shoes. Two trends I really love right now are cap-toe shoes and smoking moccasins, so when I found a cap-toe moccasin I fell completely in love. They have such a polished, casual-chic feel. I haven't worn them yet, as it's been a million degrees lately, but when it's finally cool enough I'll wear them with skinny jeans or slim pants and a bouclé jacket, one of my other favorite upcoming trends. Other top trends I'm crazy about are denim jackets and shirts, and peplum tops. Depending on the style of the top or jacket, choose the rest of your outfit, but definitely (unless you really know what you're doing) steer clear of jeans. Mega denim overload. Peplums are great because they accentuate the waist while hiding problem areas, and who doesn't like that? However, as they have a bit of volume, it's best to keep with a simple, slim skirt or pant on the bottom.

There's something just so downtown parisien chic about a simple sweater and jeans combo. True beauty is effortless, natural, and found in understatement. It is not found in layers of make-up, hair treatments, and too put-together ensembles, rather it shines when the mask comes off and the guard is let down.

I've always sort of considered denim anything-other-than-jeans to be tacky and a little too reminiscent of '90s rock stars, that is, until recently. I have completely fallen for denim dresses and blouses, and while I'm not sold on denim jackets just yet, they are growing on me.

In particular, what I love so much about the denim trend is the downtown-chic feel created with the mixture of well-structured, well-fitted silhouette and a casual, unpretentious, durable fabric. In looking for denim dresses and blouses, make sure that the pieces are well-fitted; anything too loose or even slightly shapeless will ruin the effect.

berry/oxblood/red wine

I know it has been forever and a day since I last posted; I've been super busy. I'll make up for it with several posts over the next few days. Right now I am absolutely obsessed with anything berry/oxblood/red wine-ish colored. It's such a quintessential fall color and is flattering on virtually anyone. Right now, while we are still in the transition from SS11 to AW11/12, pair oxblood colored pieces with lighter neutrals such as camel or honey-wheat tones, or simply add oxblood accents via oxblood booties, blazers, bags, jewelry, belts, etc. to ensembles. As the weather becomes even cooler, begin to pair more darker neutrals and blacks with oxblood pieces.

A few outfit ideas:

  • Pair oxblood booties, lace anklets or thigh highs, and a lace dress.
  • Be bolder by centering an outfit around a piece like  berry colored trousers or a berry colored skirt.
  • Bring a little more life to an outfit with a statement necklace with deep-red stones such as rubies.
  • Go boho by layering a slouchy deep-berry sweater over a maxi-dress.

suede shorts

Suede is usually reserved for the fall months, but this spring/summer season,  I have fallen in love with suede shorts. Especially high-waisted ones. I love their subtle-yet-extravagant feel. Wear them as you would any other pair of shorts. To avoid looking like you're dressed for early fall, avoid wearing other pieces that are predominately deep, dark colors. I prefer light tan suede shorts, as they are most springy. However, when paired with light, airy peasant tops or with crochet tops, darker brown shades work well. If it's bold color blocking that you're interested in, try a pair of brightly colored suede shorts.
